As it happens-Sunday chatter

Welcome to the experiment that we are thinking of calling K-9. Ummm, wait, that is Dr Who’s pet.  Don’t you realise we only have one week left in January? It has been a relatively mild winter here. A cold streak, some scattered flurries, which we are supposed to have some tonight, an accused terrorist and a very large crop of orange cones due to various construction projects and road collapses.

That is one thing in which the non writing world varies from writing. The whole world sees construction projects. But as a rule, we are the only ones who see the projects we are working on.

We know here about our poems and short stories, etc. But how many of you have literary highway cones placed while you work on novellas and novels right now. And what projects are you working on?

  1. Construction zone is happening 🙂 Not a novella exactly, but a fifty page collection of creative nonfiction/memoir and poems that I plan to submit for a book contest. My next collection will consist of speculative fiction that, like my former, was underway and abandoned long ago. It feels good to be really working again! Be safe in all that weather coming your way!

January was my month to mess up before really buckling down my resolutions. I think I need another freebie…

It feels really great to be working again at writing 🙂 At the end of last year I finished revising a poetry manuscript and was able to send it out for publication. My goal is to find a home for it this year. A long term writing goal that I’ve had since I was about 16 was to have a book published before I turn 30. Next month I’ll be 29 so it’s getting close. I’m working on building another poetry collection by writing as many poems as I can. I friend of mine is participating in a Weekly Song Challenge thing (where she writes 1 song, complete with music, each week) and I’m modifying that for poetry. So far I’m doing okay. I also plan on turning my contest entries into a novella. Or a novel. My current goal is to expand it to 20,000 words and then see how close I can get to 50,000. This year is going to be full of travel and new life things so I hope I can preserve a space for writing.

  4. I’m always building on the three or four core pieces that aspire to be novels one day. I don’t have the goals set as firmly in my sights as I do for projects like our website. I guess my priorities are askew.
